It tried to be cinema's first pure techno thriller. Thematically it's different than anything else he's done. Miami Vice is an arthouse film disguised as a traditional run and gun shoot em up movie. Blackhat is underrated but its not as beautifully filmed as Vice, the soundtrack is worse and Helmsworth was miscast/poorly written.
On the other hand, I think Farrell crushed it. People didn't appreciate Miami Vice in its time because they compared it unfavorably with the show, but I like that it was darker and grittier |
