Were comic books always losery even in the old days?

Grew up in the 1990s so comic books were already weird and expensive for a kid and had gay fetish drawings of muscled up super heroes on the cover. Never bought any really or read them. My mom would buy those archie comics at the grocery store some times for road trips
But my hypothesis is comic books in like the 1930s or whatever were escapism for city trash kids of immigrant backgrounds who couldn't go outside and build forts and stuff. Like brooklyn stickball ethnics. I don't think cornfed iowa jock kids were buying superman bullshit. Its very jewish and losery and nerdy. I grew up playing sport and being normal and having older girls do sexual stuff to us
