THEY ARE ALL EXHIBITION GAMES
there is nothing inherently "meaningful" about any game of football. it is just something to play and watch. the very *definition* of an exhibition.
sorry didn't mean to shout at you but this talking point drives me nuts

the same economic factors that are helping to cause this should be the same reason it's easy to fix. just have the NIL contracts impose massive penalties for skipping any game including a bowl game without injury.
probably inevitable too

why wasn't this done after the FSU bowl debacle last year?
I ALWAYS SAID that paying players would ruin the sport, that they were coddled and got "enough" perks at the big programs, and I assumed there was backhanded payments to these players too. Even on xo there were lots of people like "but the players deserve to be paid."
Well here you go. Enjoy.

ND paid players too - all of the big programs had ways to funnel $$ from donors to the kids. One example that happens a lot - big donor car dealer owners "leasing" expensive cars to players for $1/year, etc etc etc
Stop gatekeeping.
Save face? ND was not a great team this year and did not deserve to be in the playoff.

No its 180 having a big playoff. FCS lets every conference champ into the playoff and it means way more teams have something to play for. And you get underdog runs like Eastern Illinois making the semifinal this year.
Yale even won a playoff game & kept it close against Montana State.
If you're a fan of Wyoming or UConn or whatever why would you give a shit about CFB in its current state, you're locked out of ever playing a meaningful game basically. It destroys fan interest in programs and harms recruiting, it should be a national sport not a regional cartel

the bowls have been gay meaningless jokes for maybe like 20-25 years now. although the cotton bowl and a few other New Years Day games were still meaningful for a while during early BCS.
NIL and the portal completely killed the vibe. but it doesn't seem like fans of the biggest teams (e.g., tOSU, the SEC schools, that's about it, etc.) are enjoying the season any less during the throws of the conference schedule but my only reference point is a few friends. i'm not on the message boards or anything like that

If the old (OLD) system was still in place:
Oregon v. Indiana in the Rose
Georgia v. tOSU in the Sugar
TAMU v. TTEch in Cotton
Oklahoma v. Ole Miss in Orange
Miami v. ND in Fiesta
All on New Years Day as the Good Lord intended. And if there is a controversy over who is crowned National Champions so be it-- keeps the pundits occupied for a while.
