I grew up around a lot of em. And I find em all repulsive. Some of the worst ones are just people whose parents bought em a multi million dollar home and they still have to work like a low 6 figure lunch pail kind of job but they go home to a mega mansion. Those people are just ghastly to me and it's really the arrogance and the attitude... I have never met one who didn't fundamentally deep down feel like they earned it and deserve to have it all which makes me puke.

I don’t think RSF earned the money in the same sense that your MLB friend earned his salary. But his parents gave it to him, so it is his to use. He does not need to earn some further moral license before traveling, socializing, or enjoying leisure.
You seem to be treating the best imaginable use of privilege as the minimum morally acceptable use. I think the wealth tax should be much higher. I think there should be a death tax and a gift tax. We have to do something about consoomers who don't work. It's really negative for society. I don't believe in this idea that you can get so rich that you just hit escape velocity and can live in luxury off of interest forever. I don't believe in that.
Again back to the thing about earning it I think Elon is totally within his right to be a trillionaire and I have no problem with people who start their own companies like that. But the fortune should be seized upon death. Really we can't have centuries from now 7 generations of Musks who have never had a job. Just my opinion I don't care if nobody agrees. |
