The money in fantasy football was about making it interesting and keeping everyone invested. If a friend league commissioner tried to monetize it by taking a cut that would be gay.

It would be like a home poker game adding a rake. When the motivation shifts from fun and community to the owner making a buck, the experience changes. Before it was about playing a game with friends and the money was just to keep people serious, after you're a customer and the other players are strangers you're just competing against.

online sports betting has to be banned (but it won't be)

the situation is completely out of control. i'm not going to bother making an overwrought moralistic comment about it here. if you know anyone irl who has fallen prey to this shit, you know how bad the situation is rn

The rapidness our society went from Pete Rose getting banned for life to leagues and players promoting online sportsbooks tracks the collapse of society overall.

Institutions no longer care about the public welfare, because they see the writing on the wall, and the only thing to do is grab as much as you can. A drug dealer doesn't deal openly on their street unless the community is so terrible it doesn't matter, and if they strike it rich they don't raide their kids there.
