Hotels used to be like $200/night and now they’re $400-600 a night in down markets. Also, has anyone here ever done anything crazy like gotten a drink at the bar, used the restaurant, swam in the pool, visited the fitness center in one of these crazy hotels before? Remember when hotels used to have even crazier offerings like a gift shop and a florist and maybe a sommelier? lol.
Hotels suck.

50% of US spending is by the top 10%.
So basically you have created a special economy for these types who can blow outrageous money on a stupid 250 sqf hotel room
Everyone else just wont travel, they will be goy slaves or nigga welfare queens

I think it’s distorted by business travel, including people who own their own business and can write off the cost of rooms.
I just booked a Monday night hotel stay in a big east coast city at a five star place. I have the hotel’s highest loyalty status and get a free night. Of course, they blacked out this property for a random fucking Monday night and wanted like 75K points to book it. The cash price was ~ $675. I booked it personal pay (using hotel’s loyalty card) through my work’s travel booking system and it was $330 and I still get points/upgrades. I feel like in 2019 there would have have been this level of discrepancy.

Another thought is that software has made it easier for hotels to model what they can charge based on travel searches, cookies, etc. They know far in advance when demand is going to peak due to random things like conferences, seasonal tourism, etc, and are probably WAY better than they were 10 years ago at figuring out the optimal price to charge for profitability. (Also, their labor charges have become so high due to ridiculous shitlib minimum wage laws that I would bet they are more willing to not book rooms if it will save them significant labor costs; I read at a five star resort, this can be $75 per day per room, and I suspect hotels are better about not taking on unprofitable business especially if it will lower the market’s expectations of what they can charge for a hotel room.)
