First of all, I was off-duty, not Curating shit. Part 1 is a triumph, the rest are meh. The dropoff is on par with Jaws or something, the latter movies just don't Matter imho.
Second, here is what I'm talking about:
1. When characters swear, they will say things like, "Jesus Christ!" Nowadays, (((they))) don't even mention that historical character who was said to exist in Nazareth or something at some point. (((They))) have driven him out of cultural relevancy. Nowadays, Film characters never go around using God's name really at all, because (((they))) have established in the popular consciousness that he does not exist.
Also — because of this shift in cultural norms, you can identify it as a prole tell when someone says "Jesus Christ" irl, whereas a chill UMC bro or Hot Girl will be more inclined to just say "fuck" over and over again like characters on The Real World or something.
2. Just the idea of an impossibly Short man doing anything irl but being ridiculed, would be anachronistic if they tried to make a Film like this today with similar casting imho. I mean his only friend is a silent gen mad scientist but still.

I had a college gf who was obsessed with this movie and made me watch it like once a week with her. She would always gush about how happy it made her and about how "life was so much better back then"
In retrospect she would have been ridiculously easy to convert to 1488 and I definitely should have married her

theres a lot of scholarship waiting to happen about that movie (like you ignore 2 and 3).
Whats the verdict on whether life was better in 55 or 85? Its hard to say.... The movie tries to sell 85 and hip and full of cool technology like walkmans. But it is equivocal. Its impossible not to look at 55 through Marty's eyes and see how cool it was and notice how forces believed to be "liberating" (like black music) were just starting to impact america

MJF you're just supposed to look the other way on them being midgets. he falls somewhere between Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in that regard.
of all the shit you pick out you focus on them saying JC or holy shit? maybe focus on how they don't make movies even remotely like that anymore instead and how that is more indicative of our shit culture.

Just watched it recently w the kids. Hadn't seen it in probably 25 years. It's amazing how well it holds up. The pacing is great. My kids were on the edge of their seats and never got bored.
I never realized that Doc was getting a "shake down" from the cop in 1955. I always thought he had a permit for the weather equipment lol.
Crispin Glover is a complete weirdo, and his early George seems over the top, but the transition he does is great. It's actually a pretty good performance.

ET has already faded bigly
It's hard to envision Star Wars ever fading, but it might be self-destructing before our eyes
The sad thing is that shitlennials and zoomers can relate to slacker McFly much more than Indiana Jones

They actually filmed w Eric Stoltz for 6 weeks before realizing it just wasn't working. They had to reshoot all of it, but some footage still survives.

Apparently he was also not very pleasant to work with. Tom Wilson (Biff) absolutely hated him. He insisted on being called Marty even off-camera lol.

I'll go to the mat for A.I. but I get that it didn't click with most people.
Catch Me if You Can is, for me, a true classic.
Ready Player One is in his top three (probably two) worst but I'm still excited to see what he does with West Side Story.
