ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) - Chick-fil-A hopes to expand its market in fried chicken sandwich through a series of fast casual-style restaurants later this year.
The plan, revealed at a press conference in Atlanta today, targets Millennials and "foodies" who crave the speed of fast food with the ambiance of a local establishment.
The chain will call the restaurants "Filet Poulet" (pronounced Fil-A Poo-LAY) and offer its traditional fried chicken with a twist. Artisanal sauces, gourmet pickles, and larger portions were highlighted at the press conference.
"We're enthusiastic about the offerings at our new restaurants," Chick-fil-A spokesperson Jennifer Pierce stated. "We hope to attract an entirely new customer base built on our existing strengths."
Last year, Chick-fil-A had 1,775 locations and pulled in $5.05 billion in sales.
The new restaurants will also provide a different brand to former customers turned off by the chain's sponsorship of anti-gay organizations.
The first restaurant will open this fall in Atlanta, and the chain hopes that restaurants in Charlotte Chicago, Memphis, New Orleans, Orlando, and Washington, D.C. will follow by the end of 2015.

The "anti-gay" part would never ever be in an actual AP article. They would phrase it 10 times more diplomatically.
Also, way too much effort went into that.
