The root of the name Deutsch/Dutch goes further back to Old Irish "túath" (people/tribe), in Proto-Celtic "toutā" and in Proto-Indo-European *tewtéh/teuta-, also meaning "tribe"/"people".
Irish legend speaks of Tuatha Dé (“people of the gods”).
