It's pathetic when people who claim to be passionate radicals for something avoid accountability for their own inaction. Often here I see based white supremacists types referring to “they” instead of “I.” As if they're not a member of “they.” They consign themselves to being a spectator to current events but delude themselves that they're a participant, or would step up if only “they” did.

It's never “I'm just letting this happen”, “I'm not fighting back”, “I've given up.” It's all “they.” But when there's a victory it becomes “we!” We won! We're taking the country back! We've said enough is enough! But when they're disappointed in the trajectory it reverts back to “they.” It's easy to take pride and claim you had a role in a collective victory, but people avoid accountability for their role in a collective defeat.

The same is true for radical leftists. And the online radical right has no problem identifying them as losers who just LARP online. If you point out that they're exactly the same, just a different ideology, they react very strongly. Because they know it's true, and that a lot of the hate and criticism they levy on leftists, or rightwingers who don't do anything, is project self-hate.

"They consign themselves to being a spectator to current events" -- I mean, for 99.9% of people, they *are* spectators with no power.

Without speaking about the rightness or wrongness of either side, I generally think that the best thing a person can do is focus on their true sphere of influence and reduce their focus on anything outside of that. It's the old 7 Habits Circle of Influence vs. Circle of Concern. Most people, not even just radical politics types, focus entirely on the Circle of Concern. The irony is that by focusing one's efforts on the Circle of Influence, one's influence grows and can eventually actually have some sort of effect on the broader Circle of Concern.

But most people are averse to change and personal change of any sort is generally frightening to the average person. Even if it can lead to a better life for them and others.

What's more, we live in such an insane media saturated world in which the culture war stuff is pushed almost non-stop. You have to really Opt Out of most media to avoid the nonsense. And I can see how it takes a toll on people who just want to feel like their views are getting a fair shake. And I also think it's a bit unfair to say that these people need to "do something," unless you mean "something that is more beneficial to their own lives irrespective of the broader political milieu."

I don't think these people need to do anything. I'm saying it's childish to place the blame on a group when you're a part of that group.

It's completely reasonable to accept that things are as they are and as an individual you can't impact that much. In fact I think that's a core aspect of maturing. I just think individuals should take ownership over their small role in it as a member of the collective. Don't say things are fucked because "they", say things are fucked up because of "we."

But it is a "they" in the sense that average voter preference has no impact on what government does. In fact, it may actually have a negative correlation.

Their vote, which is meant to represent their views (in theory), instead leaves them saddled with whatever outcomes are desired by a subset of super elites that controls Congress and the Presidency.

I am all for telling people to get offline and stop bitching endlessly about this stuff. But to say "um ackshually you are part of the problem, too. Take ownership!" is extremely gay.

And, weird, we didn't have this problem when "the collective" was a supermajority of white people and America was 85%+ white. Odd case.

I'm speaking toward politial radicals referring to others that don't direct action or something more active than just voting. Like criticizng ordinary Texans with "Why don't think go shoot illegals crossing the border themselves?" But where ever you are you could shoot illegals in your community, but few do. They're criticizing others for not taking extreme action but they don't either.

I'm not talking about "they" to mean government officers people voted for. There's no unity it groups there because the voter isn't a member of the government.

I mean stuff like "They shouldn't let spics overrun their communities" An ordinary person is a part of that they, and they could take the actions they say others should, but they don't. That's what I'm critical of.

I wasn't thinking of HATP when I wrote this and I've sworn off subthread wastelanding anyway. There are plenty of poasters here far more guilty of engaging in externalizing their outrage onto others here than him.

a white nationalist might argue that the positive white stereotypes are true and the negative ones (which are what you're referring to) are false. If you're so determined to go around telling everyone that the negative stereotypes are true, then you have to actually provide evidence for them, otherwise we can assume you're just another resentful third-worlder
