At least in our main area of work. He's developed a niche practice in a very obscure corner of the law that allows him (and me) to recycle our old work in the vast majority of our cases. Leaves us with a much cushier workload than basically every other practice area in our large firm.

I've always assumed that it's too small of a niche area for AI programmers to worry about trying to master, but he's afraid that if we use it to make our filings that it will develop an expertise in this area and "steal" our expertise. Probably a pretty legit concern, now that I think about it.

if this is real you can just turn telemetry off and they don't train on your conversations. or just use the api which they don't train on. I'm sure ai can already figure out this "niche area" though its all the same shit.

they collect it they just don't train on it. why would they risk lying? they only need a small percent of the data to train on that's absurd.

I was never tempted to use it in the first place, since modifying some other project I worked on months or years ago is something I'm uniquely able to do since it's my old work. And it's relatively easy work once you develop an expertise in the area.

But apparently he was tempted, judging by the way he talked this morning.

If it's that easy ai can already do it and someone else can easily learn it too without ai

It wasn't easy my first few years doing it. Especially the first. My partner justifies our billing practices with the radiologist example - says patients pay a huge amount of money to have their MRIs read by an trained radiologist even though it only takes him a short period of time to read it. Says the same applies to our work- anyone lacking expertise in our area would have no idea how to produce the work we do, even though we're largely just modifying our old work. Someone new to this area wouldn't have that body of work to modify or know exactly how to do so.

AI doesn't change anything then, because people still have to learn it to be able to spot-check the work and fix it if AI is wrong. So AI is just a win for people who already know how to do it. Put it through ai to do 90% of the work and sign off on it.

this was what the palantir dude was going crazy about a few weeks ago. they're absolutely stealing your edge so they can sell it to your competitors. you need your own closed system.
