But 2008 financial crisis killed off WaMu, who had just completed a beautiful new skyscraper in Seattle. Russell stepped in and bought the building as a headquarters for literally pennies on the dollar and Tacoma was robbed of a financial hub. Seattle also lost its place as a banking center.
