I have only seen a few since I hated most of them

S tier: There Will Be Blood

C tier: Punch-Drunk Love

D tier; Boogie Nights, The Master

Haven't seen:

Hard Eight

Magnolia

Inherent Vice - looks stupid

Phantom Thread - looks good maybe, need to watch

Licorice Pizza - looks horrendous

One Battle After Another - people are raving about this Online but the trailer is very bad.

In 1997 it was implicitly commenting on and foreseeing the problems of the nascent pornification of the culture in a way that is hard to understand if you weren’t old enough to have seen it within a year or so of its release. Literally half of all web searches were porn 97-99, and you had the weird, disorienting phenomenon of these playmates going legit with Pam Anderson and Jenny McCarthy and active hardcore actresses (and Ron Jeremy) seemingly overnight being cast in a bunch of normal Hollywood productions. The movie wants you to consider its subject (who was an obvious avatar for a specific figure who remained known and notorious through out the 80s and 90s), and the 70s porn scene in that context, and in the broader context of the nostalgia that the 90s had for 70s pop culture, especially transgressive pop culture, in general. This is why younger millennials and Gen Z don’t and really can’t get Boogie Nights. But elder millennials and Gen X who don’t get it are usually autistic faggots who don’t like thinking about their gayness and socially defective brains.

I think most of his movies appeal to Gen X somehow in a way that eludes me. TWBB is a masterpiece maybe because the time period it is set in meant he had to make a real movie instead of appealing to gen x

I don't know what it is about Magnolia, but white people seem to love the movie. I've just observed this IRL among a certain age group and also on X/Twitter. White UMC types dig it.

I thought it was OK but not great, but I'm only 1/2 white.

👏 lfg

I watch movies with my gay ass bf and he's very influential because he's more artsy so I get a different perspective on what the movie meant or did.

I can still be hyper critical or adoring but movies are a good balance.

I generally like his stuff and thought Phantom Thread, Hard Eight, and Magnolia are worth watching. Inherent Vice didn't do anything for me, and I haven't seen the other ones you're asking about. I enjoyed Boogie Nights so feel free to discount accordingly. FWIW I don't think the movie glorifies pornography
