"indie" as a label for a genre only hit a fever pitch around the arcade fire/foster the people era ime. until then it was just "alt rock" or "garage rock" the only spin i had was stuff bought second hand from the blur/oasis era and it was much more dance music focused than anything to do with what we'd later call american indie stuff i guess |

I feel like I am missing a ton of shit but this was peak alt rock. There were a ton of talented bands getting financial support from the record labels. Rock was still very mainstream. There was still a lot of CD sales. It was a mini silver age. Maybe for Green Day fans it was a fallow period. St. Anger too pissed a lot of people off. |
