You only need to buy a wireless access points and hook it up to the laptop. Get an old Dell with built-in Ethernet and plug another Ethernet adapter into a USB port. Then install pfsense and now you have a router with a built-in terminal and a built-in battery backup. Go ahead and use the shittiest laptop you can find in the dumpster behind an old office building

You could also attach some faster network cards and it's literally no different than a high-end router.

I have a netgate running pfsense.

Only internet traffic goes through the router, so no need for fast ethernet there. LAN traffic goes through a WAP/switch, so that can be 2.5Gbe or 10Gbe

If you have a lot of network traffic reaching the internet, you may saturate a single interfaces throughput

Believe it or not, you can hit this easily with security cameras and voip. Of course, my security camera traffic is isolated from other traffic at the link layer and never touches the internet unless through a VPN connection.

Bitch I only pay for 350Mbps Verizon FIOS. What am I going to do with faster Ethernet to the modem lmfao. I think gigabit Internet is still the fastest they offer.
