I like some of the IHG branded hotels, like Holiday Inn, but Hyatt offers a better experience.

When traveling for business I find something in the Marriott line because I really enjoy how sterile and purposefully unoffending their properties are. It makes me feel cheap and expendable which I am. Good reminder. Like a sharp kick to the balls.

Kimptons generally have great restaurants and are always in cool locations. Service is always top notch and if you're IHG diamond you often get good upgrades (Marriott pretty much never gives you spontaneous upgrades for being Platinum elite). However, Marriott will give you 4pm late checkout consistently which is priceless for business travel.

Idk, I've stayed at some very good Marriott properties. The Residence Inn in Richmond, VA gives you basically a nice apartment if you get the corner suite and is in a great location downtown.

Some of the Marriotts in the DC area are also great. Obviously, you don't go to a Courtyard and expect it to rival an Intercontinental or Kimpton.

IHG has a few really good brands but they're Kimpton and Intercontinental. Kimpton is my go to for personal travel (I always bring my huge dog and they have no pet restrictions and they're generally a 4 star hotel).

The only impressive Holiday Inns seem to be abroad (some in Mexico are hilariously nice and have room service and shit).

Also, the IHG top tier CC is very cheap and gives you Platinum status ($40k gets you Diamond), plus accumulates points rapidly.

I'm constantly paying for hotel stays with points.

they offer similar perks, but i get enough value from the card to make it worth it. $400 restaurant credit i'd spend anyway. $600 hotel credit id spend anyway and the perks at fhr properties are incredible. $200 uber i'd spend anyway. $200 airline credit can just buy $ to put in united account bank. $300 digital entertainment credit i'd spend anyway. it pays for itself.

For me, it's the $300 stubhub credit.

For travel shrews, it's probably the increased points on shit booked thru the Chase portal, the $300 dining credits/table reservations, and $500 hotel credits for their fancy hotels.

For sweatpants gfs, it's the Apple+, Peloton, Doordash credits.

Both Amex Platinum and CSR seem shitty to me. You're better off picking a top shelf airline card and a top shelf hotel card and using those. I am probably getting Chase Sapphire Preferred so that I can transfer my 50k chase points into United miles when they run another 100k point intro bonus.

$650, and you get $300 in restaurant credit which is a no-brainer. And you do get Priority Pass lounge access plus a free night up to 85k points. Pretty easy to come out ahead.

Agreed. That was an easy way to get positive value from the points without feeling like a weirdo spending 4 hours reading blogs about how to maximize value. Transferring to Hyatt seems to be universally regarded as a good use of Chase UR points. I just did this and got about 3.5 cents per point for a peak holiday weekend stay at a level 6.
