Hey y’all — interesting night.

I rented a Turo to drive some of my things from Brooklyn, NY to my storage unit that’s 3 hours away near my parent’s house in upstate. About 2 hours into the drive, I’m pulled over by the NY State Police who inform me that the vehicle I’m driving was flagged in their system for being involved a string of burglaries.

The police who stopped me were professional but it’s still pretty nerve wracking knowing that I’m driving around in a getaway car. I’d hate to get pulled over again by a Lieutenant Dangle (or worse a Trudy Weigel) and wind up with guns drawn on me.

Anyone ever dealt with something like this before? And if so, what was your experience dealing with Turo?

Really don’t think I should be paying full price for this experience.

Yes. We host, and almost all of our cars have been impounded for drugs or DUI... We've found numerous paraphernalia left behind. Just recently after retrieving a car from the impound the renter's family showed up at the property in multiple vehicles demanding all of their paraphernalia, which had been seized, be returned to them. I thoroughly enjoyed the pleasant renters, but we get too many shady renters to stay in the game. Turo's "background check" doesn't catch suspended licenses so we had to figure out how to do them ourselves, and have had to cancel a good 10% of rents over it. So many girlfriends renting cars for their boyfriends who got banned from the platform or couldn't get approved. We tried adjusting prices, buying cars that would appeal to boring people, adjusting rental times and mileage... but Turo just seems to attract lowlifes. We're wrapping up our last rents and bowing out.

Why wouldn't they use Hertz Gold? It's way cheaper and no contact pickup
