assume:

- job is posted on the firm's website (i.e., there is a real req)

- i was contacted by a recruiter

- my experience (+10 years) and credentials (from LS like 17 years ago ljl) are directly in line with firm requirements

in these circumstances, how long can I expect to wait for a response to my lateral app submitted by the recruiter?

in case it matters, i reached out to one of the Partners in the group I am applying to because I've seen her in the market a bunch and she hired on of my subordinates once. no response from her either. it's been about 5 days

could be a fake listing to satisfy EEO requirements and they have a particular candidate in mind.

mahzher fahcker. they tricked me? but, then, why would a recruiter contact me? I didn't know about the website until after the recruiter contacted me and I started looking into it. there are unlikely to be that many people in this geographic market whose experience is more in line with this position. just by virtue of how niche the practice area is

recruiters are scum. doesnt cost him anything to waste your time and get your hopes up. hiring market is slow and he's probably desperate and shooting his shot even if its unlikely.

i'm not saying what my theory is definite. just saying that a listing doesnt mean there's a real job.

as niche as it is, all there has to be is 1 person who is qualified for the position and they've already identified that person and the whole thing is a sham.

of course, it could be a legit listing. just saying there's insufficient evidence that it's a legit listing.
