sure anything's possible, but he's not even close to on pace to match tiger. it's not clear if he's good enough to win 11 more slams. there's plenty of other guys people thought could match tiger. remember spiettth? he won 3-4 slams when he was very young and people asked whether he can best tiger, and look at him now. scottie might not even be #1 in 2-3 yrs, or maybe he will.

Shit I didn't realize Scottie was 29 already. Dude had a late start at winning majors. Still wouldn't be shocked if he wins 2-3 more per year for the next 5 years.

It's really up to the rest of the guys, many who suck ass after joining LIV

I seriously don't think the competition wants to win as badly as Tiger or Nicklaus or Hogan. That gives Scottie more of a chance

no, i wouldnt be shocked either. i also think there's plenty of other very good guys still in their prime who have won multiple slams and know how to win and can slow down his pace, plus he could easily slow down mentally or physically or get burnt out. he's got a shot, but it's a huge uphill battle still at this point.

hapa xander won 2 slams last year. theres guys like JT, rahm etc too

and golf has inherent randomness. random fucks like jj spawn and harman and wyndam hotel have won slams recently.

golf isn't like tennis where the same 2 guys are gonna win every slam for a decade. way more randomness.

Tiger and Jack's competition seemed way more fierce than these clowns

I like Xander a lot but he's never going to intimidate or catch Scottie on Sunday morning. All the guys you mentioned can hold a lead going into the 4th day. I don't see any of them doing what Tiger (or Scottie) does in terms of bum rushing the leaderboard out of nowhere or holding a massive lead after day 2 that nobody else ever sniffs

you're making good points, but keep in mind that scottie has won 2 slams in a year only once. he's bum rushing the leaderboard out of nowhere -- when he wins. but tiger was bum rushing the field in almost every event he played in his prime.

I was at the 2002 US open at Bethpage and watched like half the field hit driver on the 12th. It was basically Tiger and Daly blowing it 300 over the bunker and then everyone else limpdicking it out to the right. Also helped that Tiger happens to be probably the best short iron player of all time. he was leagues ahead of the rest of his cohort.

both when he’d hang out and “train” with them and get his knee busted and also the fact that he was running all the time in those boots they wear as if he was preparing for bud/s

TBF however, his dominance in terms of non-major wins comes with a slight asterisk given that ~15-20 of the world's top 100 players are on LIV, including 2 of the top 5 and probably 4 of the top 20.

actually i think he’s got a chance. one reason being how good he is at augusta. his bag man is a wizard there considering he got bubba watson around to two green jackets. i bet he would have won this year if he hadn’t cut his hand in the christmas wine glass ravioli incident. that was a big setback

but the other thing is that on course at least he’s got a swing and game that could have some serious longevity. the weird footwork probably saves him wear and tear on the knees and back. that plus his insane short game and competitiveness make me think he’s going to have a career more mickelson-like, except better. he might still be winning these things at 50 while tiger otoh has repeatedly been under the knife and can barely walk the courses

"AI Overview

Scottie Scheffler is open about his Christian faith, stating that he believes in a creator and in Jesus. He has publicly expressed that his faith is what defines him most, not his golf career. Scheffler's faith influences his approach to golf and life, helping him stay grounded and focused. He has also stated that he plays golf to glorify God."

The craziest thing about Scheffler is that he played 70 PGA tournaments before winning anything

Then he won 17 out of his next 76 tournaments (22%) and 4 out of 16 majors (25%) starting in 2022 with WM Phoenix.

WTF happened to him between 2021 and 2022???

Insane how this same caddy took the top 2 longest non-winning players ever into multiple majors winners

** # tournaments played before winning for multiple majors winners**

1) Bubba - 122 events before 1st win

2) Scottie - 70 events before 1st win

3) Koepka - 49

4) Justin Thomas - 39

5) Jordan Spieth - 24

6) Dustin Johnson - 22

7) Rory - 17

Rory I think started playing pro tournaments when he was like 16 and Speith/JT are two of the biggest forecememed "elite" players out there. Speith at least had his burst stretch where he putted the lights out. JT is basically Davis Love v2.

spieth made a lot of putts but his swing though looking weird at first was actually 180 when watched in slow motion. at least in ‘15 that is. his coach had some weird ideas that got him off track after that imo and cost him the ‘16 masters, though he did win the british open after that.

and what’s similar between JT and DL3? thomas won a couple majors already and is still pretty good. love was hyped big time when he came out because of how far he hit it but didn’t get a top ten in a major until he’d been a pro for a decade. that was the 1995 masters, probably my favorite major to watch the old footage of because of the way he hit his persimmon driver. well past greg norman most of the time

America has a popular sport known as "football" that impedes the popularity of golf during the fall season. also Florida courses are dogshit and the entire state has no elevation. if PGA wanted to be adventurous they'd do a cold weather tournament in October or something instead of lame FedEx extended summer bullshit in atlanta.

It's not "over a year break" but, yeah, it's really fucking annoying and gay. For casual fans, only the Ryder Cup and the majors mean anything at all.

I kind of wish they'd turn something like the Australian Open into a big deal and get more PGA guys to play it.

PGA championship should be moved back to August, and there should be one or two more UK/Euro tournaments full of top PGA guys leading up to the Scottish Open & British Open.
