Episode 1
Very first scene is some guy hitting on both the mom and the daughter. Mom appears to be some sort of drug addict.

Dabbled in GG so no stars hollow expert here but basically every episode was written by the same person (who now does mrs maisel)
Hilariously, she asked for a bunch of extra writers for the last season of the show, which caused the CW to laugh at her, so she quit. The net result being the last season being written by a bunch of random people. Anyway I think Netflix then brought her back like 10 years later to do a final final season where she confirmed they all ended up as bitter shrews

Not flame, it was funded by Johnson & Johnson, proctor and gamble, etc to try to bring back the early 90s
Edgy banter isn't unusual for prime-time TV, but it's striking on "Gilmore Girls." That's because the series (which premieres tonight at 8 on the WB network) is officially "family-friendly." The program wouldn't have been possible without something called the Family Friendly Programming Forum, a coalition of 42 major advertisers that provided $1 million in seed money to develop the series.
Organizers of the group say they're trying to foster more wholesome TV fare for its own sake, but acknowledge they have business objectives as well. Faced with a dwindling number of family-style shows, the marketers say they're looking to sponsor programs that bring together all members of a household simultaneously.
"As a mother, I was appalled by what was on TV at 8. As an advertiser, I found there were very few places I could place ads where I wouldn't be embarrassed," says Andrea Alstrup, a top advertising executive at consumer products giant Johnson & Johnson who co-founded the group. "Our real goal is simply to find more choices."
