yes. but it's very stylish and subtle. more like a 'mood play' than a story where a lot of plot elements happen. it's interesting how the director's later films all basically disown Boogie Nights as too brash and story-driven, and so instead he makes shows like Phantom Thread, a psychological costume drama featuring a lead character who is basically an autist.

You see him in his later films learning to trust himself and his storytelling. His early stuff cribs from a million different obscure directors and has a lot of very "show-offy" techniques (lens pulls, tracking shots etc...). I think he was insecure about his own talent and so, at times, fell back on technical prowess. That being said, Boogie Nights and Magnolia are both great and I don't think he'd disavow them.
