https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14877035/lifeguard-salary-Los-Angeles-County-beach.html

Some of the county's 1,500 caretakers on the beach made up to $510,283, with nearly 100 more making as much as $200,000, according to transparency watchdogs Open The Books.

They're also able to collect exorbitant amounts of overtime, with one garnering upwards of $700,000 in just a five-year span.

In 2024, the left-leaning county paid out a total of $70.8million from taxpayers for the 134 highest paid lifeguards. Much like the city, Los Angeles County is also led by a majority-Democrat council.

The county's lifeguards don't just get paid to monitor swimmers on the beach, as many also help conduct maritime rescues and other emergency responses.

'Lifeguards who risk their lives protecting the public deserve to be well compensated, but paying them more than $500,000 may be unsettling to taxpayers who are drowning in debt,' John Hart, who made the report, told Fox News Digital.

Fernando is officially a Fire Department employee which means he probably gets 85% of final salary + health care for life beginning at age 50.

He's also a tall chad anti-religious zealot

How is this real

Lifeguard Chief Boiteux is 6’4” tall and weighs 220 pounds. Captain Little is aware that Chief Boiteux is also trained in martial arts. He delivered his message to Captain Little in a violent and angry manner while standing over Captain Little—who is only 5’9” tall and weighs 150 pounds. Captain Little believes that the specific intent of Chief Boiteux’s demeanor was to be physically intimidating.

it's often true in CA that the pensions and bennies are astronomically expensive and so the accountants tell the public entities that hiring new employees is a last resort. so they pay massive overtime.

the larger problem, of course, is that it's a one-party state and that one party does everything it can for public employee unions. you can't be elected in most of CA without their support.

There was a post here years ago about how the lifeguard thing is mob controlled and you basically cannot apply for these jobs, they’re handed down in families like sinecures

Thats actually complete bullshit. I could see that with police or fire dept and they can be useful to the mob.. but lifeguard is a straight swim test. It just happens to be competitive enough that you need to be a college level swimmer. That's one exit option of being a college swimmer. Or if you're good just do it straight out of high school since unlikely you'll get a better job after 4years of college

Yes, many California lifeguards are part of unions, particularly those employed by the state or large municipalities like Los Angeles County. For instance, lifeguards working for California State Parks are represented by the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA). Los Angeles County lifeguards are also unionized, with the Los Angeles County Lifeguard Association bargaining for wages, benefits, and working conditions.
