This was baked into everything. Johannes Kepler was, more than anything else, an astrologer. He was observing the stars for that reason
Descartes was the first to wipe all of that off the map. He had to due to political pressure in his lifetime. He gave birth to an intellectually STERILE environment where esoteric traditions were either mocked or, following Descartes' example, thoroughly ignored. One reason is that Descartes’ “methodological skepticism” allowed him to act AS IF he were the beginning of something new, and it was an image he sold. Starting from scratch, with his idea of the malevolent powerful demon who might be tricking him into believing all sorts of nonsense, Descartes gives himself permission to ignore his own influences. So he ends up looking like Atlas, holding the whole world of (modern) philosophy on his mighty shoulders.
