Been in great shape all my life, but the perks of youth became apparent at 34 -- I would get tired more easily during workouts and developed cravings for junk I'd normally never eat. Even though my diet was clean, I had to become even more strict about it to fix what was going on -- low-carb is hard to do when you're older, and you become more sensitive to electrolyte imbalances. At 37, I now have to be more conscious of carb consumption/timing and hydration in order to keep up my workout routine of roughly two hours of cardio nearly every day and weights 4-5 times a week.

Also most people, even elite athletes, peak athletically in their early 30s. If someone 40+ tells you they're in the best shape of their life, they were likely lazy fucks in their youth. And they might also be on TRT.

Of course you won’t be as fast and strong as you were in your 20s but staying in shape is not hard. Why are you doing two hours of cardio per day? Does this include gooning or something? That’s way too much

I end most days with a 1.5 hour moderate-intensity bike ride. The streets and trails are quiet and peaceful, I get out of the house, my mood improves, and I sleep well. I get more cardio in during the day when I run errands or commute.

"Looking in shape" as you age is not that hard, but maintaining my level of fitness went from effortless to a science experiment over the last several years.

I have a water rower. My entire exercise regime is 20 minutes a day on that and 15 minutes of lifting a 60 pound curl bar in all the wrong ways to maintain my arms and chest. Been doing this for 18ish years. Am fine at 44. No back or knee problems. No shoulder problems.
