Maui is all about the resort culture imo. It's for White Lotusmos. What little scenic perfect beaches there are got scooped up by the big hotels. Some people just want to be around other rich people.
I heard a lot that many people rank Kauai the best because of the verdant mountains and it just looks cool as fuck. The knock on Oahu is that it's prole af. Hnl is a big American city for better or ill. Not saying that it doesn't have anything going on but I feel like the exclusivity starts when you get out of Oahu.
You're also vastly underrating the big island. It's got everything. Rainforest, desert, volcano, white sand beach, black sand beach. Really a lot to do imo.
