probably just timed the jump RIGHT before the plane hit the ground so that it was basically like he just jumped off a ledge a couple feet above the ground.
I mean once you jump off the plane it's easy but timing the jump right seems hard.

same applies to elevator crashes - why not just jump up right before it hits the ground?

Aren't exit doors auto locked while the plane is moving? How do you get it open? And once you do, what's to say the force doesn't suck you out? Hoe many planes falling at 500 mph have people successfully jumped out of much less you? Not to mention all the other jack bauers on board fighting to get out and pushing your ass out too soon. Finally, you're going to still hit the ground pretty fucking hard regardless of how well you time the jump because of the airspeed. LJL at someone who thinks it would be just like jumping off a 3 foot ledge.
TL;DR: never change XO

Hey uhh...nice try bro but I have a Physics degree so perhaps you should defer. Yw.
Care to explain why it wouldn't be the same? Assuming you could dodge the explosion, oc...

it's because people panic and they jump from too high....if you time it to where you're like 20 feet above the ground you can pull it off with maybe a sprained ankle....broken leg at worst.

? I don't need to prove you wrong faggot I have a Physics B.S.
If you can't understand the simple and trivial analogy of jumping from the surface of the plane and jumping from a ledge a few feet above the ground then god help you.
I sure hope you don't practice law with those analytical "skills"

How are the "physics" different mouthbreather?
According to the laws of physics, both the elevator car and Buster dropped at the same breakneck speed. In order to overcome that velocity and survive the impact, Buster would've had to have jumped up faster than the elevator was racing down.

why don't airlines give everyone a parachute; why do i get a flotation device while flying over land?
also, why do people drown in their cars, why can't they just open a window and swim out?

it has been done successfully, see the capt sullenberger flight where he was renowned for his heroism by instructing all passengers in this method successfully.
but also has been done unsuccessfully, see the capt sum ting wong flight where that girl tried it and survived but then didn't stick the landing and got run over by the ambulance

i won't speak to plane crashes, but regarding plunging elevators (same principle) i really don't understand how jumping at the last second doesn't prevent injury.
there is a ride at the fair that is basically like a massive platform that goes up hundreds of feet in the air, and then *drops*, hundreds of feet. when you drop, standing on the platform, it's like you are weightless. there is no downward force driving you towards the earth (otherwise, everyone on the ride would fly through the bottom of the platform and die).
in an elevator, it should be much the same. you should be weightless, and able to jump upwards to avoid impact as the elevator makes contact with the bottom of the shaft. the greater concern seems to be flying through the roof of the elevator.

a terminal velocity free fall into water is likely not survivable (and you may drown anyway after breaking your legs and ribs), but there's probably a material chance of surviving. i think there are recorded survival stories of this.
and as for entry position, do a pencil:

Everytime I'm in an airplane I just laugh at how people sit in the exit rows for the extra leg room not realizing that sitting there can actually save their lives.
Just funny as hell how people are scared of flying bc of plane crashes. This thread just reconfirms how much of the world is stupid and expects the government to save them. I see responses like "just make planes safer," MOAR regulation" like no bro, just realize you can do something to save yourself in plane crashes. Take some personal responsibility.

awesome thread, but you cant survive a plane crash. or elevator crash. or any crash where you exceed 40mph in a ton of metal which comes to an abrupt stop (cars have crumple zones which help so add a few mph to energy dissipated). The KE=1/2mv2 formulae applies and all that energy is going into you with far more force than a bullet. your bones will crack, your skin will rupture, your eardrums and membranes will explode due to pressure differential and finally you will die in a blazing fireball composed of hot metal fragments.
