cumskins DEFINITELY cant be stereotyped as inconsistent fucktards who whine about the cost of living 24/7 whilst accusing nyuug, who has never made a SINGLE thread complaining about high CoL, of being "repetitive", FOR SURE

Why do you care gook?
Just utterly bizarre how you obsess over a country 10,000 miles away when you supposedly live in utopia

That's just a data update on a really old issue.
The shitlibs have two main responses:
1. Good Intentions and Is-Ought Fallacy: "But we meant well, and developers shouldn't be so greedy." Ok, but so what? Your behavior actually harms affordability. Either stop it or accept the tradeoffs.
2. We Make the Best Cities. This one is less stupid. They say their cities are nicer, so increased demand pushes up prices. But it's not so clear that it's actually true in any robust or meaningful way.

This is an nyuug necro of an ancient thread, but I'll respond anyway. First, I wonder how much of this effect is due to geography rather than policy. Shitlib cities tend to be on the coast, whereas redder cities tend to be inland. It's always going to be easier to build more houses in Dallas than in San Francisco regardless of the governments of those two cities.
Having said that, redder areas tend to be more business-friendly with fewer regulations, particularly environmental regulations. In California, the NIMBY's can block almost any project forever by saying that it will have some negative effect on the environment. That's harder to do in red areas, which leads to more houses and cheaper housing prices.
