You only need to buy a wireless access points and hook it up to the laptop. Get an old Dell with built-in Ethernet and plug another Ethernet adapter into a USB port. Then install pfsense and now you have a router with a built-in terminal and a built-in battery backup. Go ahead and use the shittiest laptop you can find in the dumpster behind an old office building

You could also attach some faster network cards and it's literally no different than a high-end router.
I have a netgate running pfsense.
