Here was my writeup:
I never thought I would have to write something like this about a grocery store in our own community.
Today, I was kicked out of (store) for pumping breast milk for my baby at home. I was not exposing myself, bothering anyone, or doing anything inappropriate. I was simply trying to provide food for my child.
Breast milk is not sexual. Pumping is not obscene. A mother feeding her baby should not be treated like she is doing something shameful.
What makes this especially upsetting is knowing how many women already feel pressured to hide, apologize, or stay home because normal motherhood makes someone else uncomfortable. When a local business humiliates one mother for pumping, it sends a message to every mother in town about whether she is welcome there.
I hope (store) takes a serious look at how this was handled, apologizes publicly, and makes sure no other woman is treated this way. Mothers in this community deserve to know which businesses respect them and which ones believe feeding a baby is grounds for removal.
Please share this, especially with other mothers. People should know what happened before deciding where to spend their money.
