I'm a fan of the current Fed, but at some point Congress is going to force their hand by refusing to either raise taxes or cut spending. Bond sales will fail for lack of buyers and the Fed will end up having to step in and print money to keep the government functioning.
That will mean we end up paying for the debt with the de facto tax increase of inflation, but there won't be any choice since politicians will just flat out refuse to make hard choices.

One important point is that SCOTUS clearly has the Fed's back in any constitutional crisis where Trump tries to fire Fed board members. They made that clear by explicitly creating a "federal reserve" exception to that Humphrey's Executor appeal holding a couple of months ago.

The board terms last 14 years, and only a few of those at most roll off. A wild card is that Trump will be able to appoint new chairs and vice chairs who also have board seats. They typically resign their board seats once they lose their chairmanships, but they aren't required to. So if they think Trump will replace their board seat with some hack, they may well exercise their right to stay on the Board until their terms for that expire. That includes Powell, who can keep his board seat if he likes even after Trump refuses to reappoint him as Chairman.
