There will be no meaningful progress in electing truly right wing people if the candidates are people like James Fishback. I really believe that a majority of people would welcome ostensibly right wing politics if delivered by competent and trustworthy men who have their shit together outside of politics.

BAP has flaws, but I always think about the section in Bronze Age Mindset that says something to the effect of "imagine a man who looks like Mitt Romney and who behaves as such (and not like a fucking cuck)." i.e.) someone who is respectable, looks decent, has his shit meaningfully together, and then brings a combination of right wing views + competency to the table.

I love Fuentes, but him backing Fishback was retarded and he puts way too much emphasis on "aura" bullshit (of which Fishback has none to begin with).

Though with all that said, it is probably impossible to do this while Trump is still alive.

fishback won like 90% of votes under 30 and like 70% under 35. i think he is actually a great politician (in the sense of being able to get elected). he has all the qualities of celebrity in the millennial/gen-z age

it's just a matter of generational turnover. there's nothing that can be done electorally until boomers die out. if you actually look at the demographics of who votes in republican primaries, it's fucking nuts. it's all boomers. their raw numerical advantage is unassailable

He should've run for a State House seat, not Governor. But he's an attention seeker.

Someone like him as Governor would do more harm than good IMO.

how do you figure? the guy who is going to win the republican governorship is a literal nigger eGOP stooge who will expand benefits for boomers, expand preferential treatment for jews, and continue to suppress QOL for whites and people younger than boomers

the "damage" is done by establishment candidates continuing to win. whatever amount of bad policies or decisions made by someone like fishback would be net less damaging than another status quo stooge hostile to our interests

being an attention whore is how you win elections in the Matrix age

the fishback archetype of person is very good at winning elections. mamdani ran the same playbook but with way more favorable demographics. are these people any good at "governing?" no, probably not, but that doesn't matter in 2026 anyway

I mean he lost the election. So it does seem like it is actually not how you win. At least not in a GOP primary.

I think Trump is the actual largest impediment here. Because in order to be a major candidate for the GOP you basically need to glaze Trump. And anyone who fits a more truly competent archetype is not going to do that. So you end up with Fishback.

Boomers will absolutely vote for someone who is "based and redpilled." But they care far more about "presentability" or whatever than some doomer 27 year old (who will probably also care more about competence and presentability as they get older and realize that getting shit done is much different than saying based shit).

Guys like Fishback push the Overton window. The risk-averse, sensible mitt Romney types will only begin spouting far-right talking points when it’s clear those talking points are safe. By the time they are safe, they are then mainstream. Almost by definition, anyone willing to push the limits on politics will be viewed as unbalanced and risky. Richard Spencer tried a decade ago, and Fishback’s physical appearance is more put together than plenty of mainstream politicians (lol Nancy Mace). But pushing far right/left ideas will always come with risk.

I get what you’re saying, and I largely agree. It’s mind-blowing that we don’t seem capable of electing a common-sense politician who will champion popular ideas. Instead we get these flighty, risk-averse self-promoters who treat their political positions as moves in some retarded chess game.

Trump used to be a joke, trying to run on Obama’s birth certificate and his business experience. But seemingly by chance, his crassness allowed him to stumble onto immigration and champion a more “nativist” vision. That proved to be wildly popular and is single-handedly the reason he got nominated and elected in 2016. The lesson politicians seem to have learned from this is not to champion Ricky but potentially very popular ideas, but instead to act crassly. Now we have Newsom and Ossoff trying to imitate Trump, but championing worn, tired ideas. Of Christy Noem types on the right who shamelessly self-promote at everything they do but fall short of actually accomplishing anything.

Yes, it is horrible. Noem is, in particular, a gigantic disgrace. The whole thing with her husband is truly on another level.

My little half-baked pet theory is that we are all basically arguing over a false and dead system and that power has inexorably and totally moved out of the State and into the hands of global finance and global corporations. The remnants of the state are effectively just used by finance capital for the time being before we can really transition to something new.

In 200 - 300 years, people will look back and call this the Rump Government Transitionary Age or some such shit.

fishback is an empty vessel performer. he adopted his "based america first" policies like yesterday when he saw it as angle to tap into an new political market and get himself elected, before that he was buddying up with vivek while launching an etf.

you are right that performer types can do well in elections and it's basically what mamdani and the entire left are doing now. also how aoc got recruited. arguably identifying and elevating performers should be how the right should operate. but that has to come as part of a broader strategy where the performer exists to serve as a front for a self-conscious and coherent movement with each candidate operating as a small cog on its behalf (which as you note would end up with him running for the house if this were done correctly, not governor).

fishback's hollow performativity is simply on his own behalf. that's fine if you can ascend to trump's level and become the driving force behind the movement but fishback is not that. he is a wannabe podcaster who decided to try politics instead of podcasting.

he would have done better running a secular campaign than emphasizing all his weird over-the-top religious stuff. it has the stench of a planned failure in that sense - injecting obtrusive religious standards into 'right-wing' political movements was one of the tricks being proposed back in the 2010's to cripple the non-GOP right.

the idea being that making things explicitly sectarian imposes a hard cap on popularity, as opposed to a secular movement which focused on non-religious populist themes.
