Subject: ITT: Grad Loans

Bros, I'm going to HSW for b-school this Fall and currently applying for student loans. Anyone else in the same boat for b-/law school? I'm too risk averse to go with variable rate loans and from what I can tell, the 6.8% rate on stafford loans and 7.9% Fed PLUS rate has created an artificial floor in student loans among all of the private lenders. Has anyone else had a different experience? Can I get a lower fixed rate by going through a credit union or something?

Nope, what you say is pretty much true. CUs do offer student loans though, but you're unlikely to get anything less than 5% either way. I'd say just go government so you can IBR it, but since you're not going to law school, you probably won't need IBR.

I can't imagine the gravy train is going to last long so take what you can while you can. Just like they shut down the bankruptcy gravy train (ask the MDs), they'll do the same thing to IBR. With Obama apparently not really giving a shit about the practices of the academic institutions, he'll fuck over the students before the end of his second term.
