On Christmas night, over all, the aurora borealis watched
silent and green and shimmering
With not even the wind to be heard so high where it lives
While in my home my lazy man parsley,
christmas tree was glimmering
all yellow and green, blue and soft red
The dog lay in his spot with an eye always open,
But on this christmas night his legs paddled,
and kicked as if he were swimming a far off blue ocean
An empty mug sat by my side, it was once filled with coffee
my fifth cup was gone, only the dark sands left in the bottom
and I did feel that rare glow, of the past and present stirring,
And I tread through old memory, and felt glad, and all were asleep, but me, on Christmas night.
