I'm a global warming doubter, but I can't really rule it out.

That said, Al Gore is generally pretty insane these days. I don't know his specific views on the subject, but I'm guessing they are crazy.

I'm aware that it exists and that Al Gore had something to do with it. Beyond that, no idea, especially not any specifics about what he says in it.

Yeah, but there are some that think the effect will be fairly mild and some that think it will be severe. I remember when the Day After Tomorrow came out, Al was saying that that was our future or some such nonsense.

If Al Gore does not take such a extreme view on the subject than there would be little to no awareness on this topic. Al Gore is simply bringing an attention to subject that effects us all regardless of whether the effect will be mild or severe people probably should be aware and act accordingly.

There's not really much point in my discussing what Al Gore is or is not doing given that a) I haven't seen the movie and b) I don't really know much about his particular views on the subject.

That said, I completely disagree with this "we need to have an extreme view so there would be more awareness" line of thinking. We need to have an *accurate* view so we can plan our response in an appropriate way. Going for the extremest possible view, just to get attention, is the classic crying-wolf story.

There isn't a single Case grad employed at Baker Botts, so I'm thinking not very well. If you wanted to be the first, you would definitely need top 10% and law review. That is roughly what is required from UH, which is ranked similarly (and UH has the advantage of being a local school).

Not all of it, but I've been impressed with how substantive some of my projects have been. I wrote a motion to dismiss for an actual case. I'm sure the partner I gave it to will tear it up and rewrite a lot of it, but it was like a 10-page motion, so something I wrote in there will hopefully end up being useful.

I prepared all the contracts for a closing on a ~$300m deal. It's not something that required a lot of skill, but it had to be done, and they were actually used at the closing.

ty MTG. how do you think BIGTEX ranks the law schools? One dood from Columbia was on here saying that all you need from there for VE and BB was to have ties to TX, a decent interview and it doesn't what your 1L grades are. Sound like trolling or an honest assessment?

I actually got some interesting insight into this Tuesday. I had lunch with the hiring manager, and I was talking to him about how many 1Ls we had this year (we had around 20, which is very high). He said it was because they didn't hit their hiring numbers on 2Ls so had to fill the class with 1Ls. He specifically mentioned "Yeah, we usually only hire 1Ls from the very top schools. Harvard, Stanford, Chicago... this year we hired 1Ls from schools we've never hired from before, Northwestern, Michigan, Penn." (I'm pretty sure he just forgot to include Columbia in the top schools; I know they've hired 1Ls from there in the past)

So there is some hierarchy, and they do draw lines between CCN and MVP. As to specific hiring, I haven't gone through 2L OCI, but I only know one Chicago guy who had ties to Texas who tried for a 1L job and didn't get one.

The Chicago OCI numbers show that about top 66% of the class has gotten callbacks at BB/VE. That there isn't anyone in the bottom third doesn't necessarily mean that they wouldn't be able to get a job; it could just mean that nobody from Texas has been in the bottom third. In our 200 person class, I would say we have roughly 10-15 people interested in the Texas market, so it wouldn't be too statistically unlikely for there to have not been a Texas person in the bottom third.
