Instead, Mickey trains him to fight southpaw to protect his eye. It will also confuse Creed, however, Rocky does not have the motivation to train for the rematch.
He gives up training completely once his wife goes into a coma during a miscarriage and stays by her bedside in the hospital.
One of the GOAT scenes in movie history is when she wakes from her coma and tells him there is "only one thing I want you to do for me . . . win."
The bell chimes signaling the start of the greatest training montage ever.
Sure the double knockdown was a little cheezy, but that was a great fight culminating in Mickey yelling, "Switch!" to tell Rocky to switch to Southpaw.
Its tempting to rate Rocky II as the GOAT, but Rocky I defied Hollywood endings by having the protagonist lose at the end and this was before sequels became the norm so I have to give it the edge over Rocky II because it was so raw and unpolished. |
