The new cadre of people moving in are so rich they don't want anything to do with the municipal school system (it's top 100 in the nation). Their kids go to private school, they have black SUVs shuffle their kids around. Some of the nouveau riche don't even live in the state where I'm from. My parents have neighbors who work in Palo Alto half the year and the other half they're staying in their empty mansion where I'm from. Some have beware/danger signs on their mansions. This is an incredibly upscale neighborhood where nothing bad ever happens. Even 20 years ago the whole place was latch key kids running around. I think this neighbor is really up themselves but apparently they haven't spoken to a single other neighbor about anything. They really just want to keep the proles out. It's like, we're so far ahead of a 1.5 million net worth UMC striver couple we don't even want you or your kids looking at our house. Don't even dream of walking up to the door. It's getting kooky how much the mega rich resent regular people. They really have a disdain even for UMC let alone the handyman.

The irony is that there are tons of children who could benefit from amazing schools paid for by the property tax of the aging Boomers.
But the bottleneck is you need rich kids to attend nice schools. You have poor kids who can't afford to attend nice schools and empty schools in nice areas. But no one has suggested we give the nice school opportunities to lower class people. Instead they just close em down. It's not like rich boomers are going to pay to educate poor people's children! That would be crazy. |
