the high-throughput devices are still $200K plus, but if you're just doing lower-volume work, the chinese will get you in for $10-$30K, depending on secondary features. it opens up all kinds of possibilities. eg, you can verify store-bought fish speciation and so on. a lot of stores lie about their 'salmon.'
