we'll reach a point at which incremental model advances will achieve little to no improvements in "intelligence" and ai itself will be a commodity. like email it will be trivial to operate and host locally with few if any compromises, but most normies will not want to bother and will prefer a convenient consumer-oriented package that exists on the cloud and is maintained by someone else, like gmail. anthropic is attempting regulatory capture because it sees the commoditization coming but all it has to do is focus on creating a top-notch consumer product where customers end up storing all their data and from which it would be a pain in the ass to switch. or an enterprise-level equivalent like aws.

yeah email can definitely be compared to the complete deprecation of the human mind and human general intelligence. also will get cheaper but will never be as cheap as email. even when it gets to the point where you can run astra level models on todays local hardware it wont matter because something better will be normalized at that point. astra is a lot smarter than ape intelligence for sure, but that might be a low baseline.
