It's not illegal to suggest to someone who they should vote for if they support certain policies afaik.

So you should be put in prison if you tell people to vote for a candidate and/or tell them where he's located on the ballot? Wtf?

If we want to have an actual "democracy," yeah. We would need that level of enforcement to stop ballot harvesting

It's just reason #9891239812835 why democracy is fucking retarded and has and will never work

So to be clear, if you've ever told someone "You should vote for Trump", you should be put in federal prison?

If you're going around door to door, standing next to them as they fill out their ballot, and taking their ballot from them to turn it in, yeah

Obviously "democracy" is never going to actually work if you have paid professionals going around to the stupidest, most utterly clueless, worthless, and irrelevant individuals in society, none of whom would ever cast a "vote" on their own, and trick/intimidate/incentivize them to vote for the candidates or issues sponsoring the paid professional

I'm aware that there are a million other reasons why democracy is stupid and would never work anyway. But when we live in a world where "democracy" (sic) is literally the moral justification given by the official state apparatus for why they have the mandate of heaven, there needs to at least be a pretense that there are actually democratic elections

I would think that the 'most utterly clueless, worthless, and irrelevant individuals in society' would most benefit from being told about candidates' policies, and there's a pretty big 1A issue with telling people that they're not allowed to tell people who they want them to vote for.

I personally am not a huge fan of unqualified democracy either, but enfranchising people who might otherwise not vote or might not understand how to vote does not at all seem to be antidemocratic if that's what you want to attack it on. If anything, its problem is that it's too democratic.

You are obviously not a dumb person at all so I'm going to chalk this up to you being ethnically non-white and so not instinctively understanding what "democracy" actually means to the people who invented it and actually believe in it (shudder)

If you're interested you can look up and read any of the many western intellectuals who have written at length about democracy requiring an informed citizenry etc

There is no amount of sophistry that is ever going to convince a normal white person that illiterate brown people and senile elderly people having their votes harvested by paid operatives is "democracy" and that's just the way it is

I know all about Rousseau and Locke and Montesquieu and citoyens actifs et passifs, etc. I'm just saying that under the modern conception of democracy as 'every single person should have the vote no matter how dumb they are', this isn't really inconsistent. Limiting the franchise hasn't really been a mainstream position for about a century at this point.

I personally think it wouldn't be a bad idea to have everyone take, e.g., the citizenship exam, if there's going to be a democracy.

Yeah, the issue is that 'every single person should have the vote no matter how dumb they are' is not a "modern" conception of "democracy," but rather an entirely new and incredibly cynical creation of partisan sophistry within the last 15 years. No white westerner has ever thought about "democracy" in this way

It's true that the abstract idea and logic of 'democracy' necessarily implies that everyone in a society should be voting, and that maximally extending suffrage makes democracy More Democratic and thus Better, since we all know that Democracy is Good. But this just is not how normal white people think about it

It's similar to the phenomenon of most self-identifying white Christians not actually believing in any/most of the individual precepts of Christianity, while still genuinely carrying the self-image of a devout Christian. Normal white people have these concepts (Democracy, Christianity) genetically programmed into them and thus understand them intuitively as broad and vague "in spirit" things rather than as precise abstractions with precise definitions

Imo the (understandable) difficulty for non-white intellectuals in grasping this contributes to a lot of friction, particularly with Jews, who are genetically programmed to be the opposite: Precise abstract rule-followers to an autistic degree, with no "in spirit" understanding of things whatsoever
