They fraudulently upcharged me $50, initial bill for shipping a computer was $150->200. I disputed and my credit card returned $50. I sent $150 prinstcreen to credit card. Now they threaten to send $50 to collections. Can this affect my credit? I obviously don't intend to spend any more of my time on this fraudulent company that's trying to blackmail me.

Under $100 can't show on credit report. They can sue in small claims but they won't

I'm not worried about being sued, I have copy of the initial bill that I paid, but they charged my cc wrong amount, which is why cc rejected them. But are you sure they can't fuck up credit? Then no one would ever pay bills under 100.

No, it will not affect your credit

Let them "send it to collections" and dispute there. You can send them the info and a fdcpa threat. They will close the account.

FYI there is no such thing as "collections". Debts are debts and your "credit" isn't affected by "being in collections"

I mean I don't care if they internally do it or sell the "debt" for $1 to collections, either of which can at most place a "derogatory complaint to credit bureau". What are the consequences of that derogatory complaint, since the credit bureau obviously doesn't care about the validity.

The short answer is no. The long answer is that you need to assess who you think will be pulling your credit report over the next few years and how they'll view this. If you plan to buy a house, get a car...and won't have a lot to put down or a high income then you need to take care of this. As someone mentioned, you can send a certified letter to the collection agency and maybe they'll back down. You can also send a message to the credit reporting company but in my experience all they do is ask the collection agency if they got the right person.

Ultimately you might just have to eat the $60 or try to negotiate them down if you want it off your credit report.

The truth is that we need better laws around this. Before being able to put a collection on your credit report, these people should have to win a court case or in some way substantiate that you actually owe the money to an objective third party. FWIW I still have a collection notice on my report because an apartment I lived in several years ago tried to cheat me and sold the "debt" to a collection company.
