#2 - Commercials have the opposite effect on me. My brain completely tunes them out and thinks about other stuff instead. Of course the ads still register on a subconscious level, so they're serving their purpose in that way, but 99% of the time if you ask me what a commercial was about 1 second after it ended I'll have no idea because I immediately went into my Rich Inner World.
Maybe that's the case for at least some of the people you think are mesmerized by the ads? They're actually just disengaging and thinking about something else?
