It would've really saved a lot of the Holy Wars fought in his name if he just would've left a sticky note or some shit proving any of the "miracles" he performed.
Just seems kinda odd that such a popular Dood wouldn't leave any proof behind for future generations

“By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one to another.” John 13:35
Christ taught love without racial boundaries. If your response to another ethnicity is contempt and racial slurs, perhaps it’s not Asians who are struggling to understand Christianity, perhaps it is you my punctuation moniker based friend.

Historians like William Harris and Catherine Hezser note that antiquity generally operated under a baseline literacy rate of around 10% across the Roman Empire. Factoring in that the region was heavily rural (roughly 70% rural), total literacy in the Land of Israel is often calculated to be 3% or lower.

I admit that the story of "Jesus" is somewhat apocryphal, but the distillation of "his teachings" is 180 and way better than those of any other analogous figure.
It’s known among the Talmudists that he attended Yeshiva and was able to read Hebrew and Aramaic quite well but was born a mamzer to Jewish mother and not allowed to continue his rabbinic studies
there's little evidence of him reading and writing, but there is that one passage in Luke suggesting that he read the (presumably Hebrew) torah in the synagogue.
some thing he just was able to memorize huge portions of scripture which was not uncommon.

Um obviously if Jesus was ackshually the son of God he'd have spent his time writing about it rather than demonstrating it to inspire others to do so. I mean, if we had a piece of paper from Him saying he was the son of God then there wouldn't be any room for doubt.

Lmao. Yeah, the bible makes it very clear that God would NEVER make his existence obvious in response to people doubting him:
21 Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.”
But the people said nothing.
22 Then Elijah said to them, “I am the only one of the Lord’s prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets. 23 Get two bulls for us. Let Baal’s prophets choose one for themselves, and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. 24 Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord. The god who answers by fire—he is God.”
Then all the people said, “What you say is good.”
25 Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Choose one of the bulls and prepare it first, since there are so many of you. Call on the name of your god, but do not light the fire.” 26 So they took the bull given them and prepared it.
Then they called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. “Baal, answer us!” they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered. And they danced around the altar they had made.
27 At noon Elijah began to taunt them. “Shout louder!” he said. “Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is sleeping and must be awakened.” 28 So they shouted louder and slashed themselves with swords and spears, as was their custom, until their blood flowed. 29 Midday passed, and they continued their frantic prophesying until the time for the evening sacrifice. But there was no response, no one answered, no one paid attention.
30 Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come here to me.” They came to him, and he repaired the altar of the Lord, which had been torn down. 31 Elijah took twelve stones, one for each of the tribes descended from Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord had come, saying, “Your name shall be Israel.” 32 With the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord, and he dug a trench around it large enough to hold two seahs[a] of seed. 33 He arranged the wood, cut the bull into pieces and laid it on the wood. Then he said to them, “Fill four large jars with water and pour it on the offering and on the wood.”
34 “Do it again,” he said, and they did it again.
“Do it a third time,” he ordered, and they did it the third time. 35 The water ran down around the altar and even filled the trench.
36 At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: “Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. 37 Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”
38 Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench.
39 When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The Lord—he is God! The Lord—he is God!”
40 Then Elijah commanded them, “Seize the prophets of Baal. Don’t let anyone get away!” They seized them, and Elijah had them brought down to the Kishon Valley and slaughtered there.

My point is obviously that if one believes that the biblical stories such as that one actually happened, then it doesn’t make sense to say that God is unwilling to provide evidence for his existence.
So you’ve got a dilemma: either you can claim that God is happy to demonstrate his own existence to skeptics in the form of spectacular displays of divine power, in which case, where are these displays? Or you can claim that he isn’t willing to do so, in which case you have no explanation for why your bible says he did precisely that.

The levels of Spacepornian stupidity ITT have been bothering me since I read this.
First, the premise of "If God real why not provide more evidence HUH?" is so obvious that it's hard to believe a 50 year old man got high and thought it was so profound he'd share it with other grown men.
Second, the specific proof he's looking for is... writing? How would that *reduce* doubt? If we had a letter from Jesus asserting he's the son of God how would that resolve any skeptics doubts?!
Third, the specific thing he think Jesus could have been clesrer on his stance on violence? What?! Pretty sure there's quite a lot on that!

Hey Diary, it’s me, Jesus, and I’m writing this in my own special diary. You know, the one I keep in my heart, not in a book. Today is the day I’m going to have this super special meal with my best friends — my disciples. It’s like the biggest, most important dinner ever, and I can’t wait to share it with you.
First, we all sit down at this long table. It’s kind of like a big family dinner, but with extra magic. I see Peter looking a little nervous, and John smiling like he’s ready for adventure. I tell them, “Come, all of you, be happy and eat.” It’s like when you have your favorite friends over for a really special night- everyone feels warm and happy.
Then, I take the bread and the wine. I say, “This is my body and my blood.” It’s like when you share your favorite snack with your friends, but it’s even more special because it’s about love and friendship. I want you to remember me, and to remember how much I love you.
I also tell them that one of you is going to betray me. I can see Peter’s face change- he’s like, “What? Me? No way!” It’s kind of like when you find out your best friend is going to do something silly, but I know it’s part of the plan. I want you to be brave and not be scared.
After the meal, I wash their feet. It’s like when you clean up after a big game, but I do it for them so they can feel clean and ready for the next adventure. I tell them, “I have told you everything you need to know. You can do it.” It’s like when your mom says, “You can do it, you’ve got this”.
I feel so happy and full of love, and I know that even though I’m going to be away for a while, I’ll always be with you in my heart. This is the most important meal I’ve ever had, and I want you to remember it forever.

Never thought about it like that. In fact, why didn't He just seed knowledge of the divine into every man's heart so that no man would not know Him? Wow I am no longer a Christian
1 Others have pointed out the low literacy rate. His apostles were presumably illiterate (part of the messaging, really - fishermen etc). Writing things down wouldn't have been particularly helpful in spreading the gospel in an oral culture.
2 Perhaps contemporaneous written records of His works did exist but were lost to the shuffle of time. The significance of those accounts would not have been apparent right away. How many comprehensive records of the goings-on of villages in Judea exist, period? I mean, there are no written records documenting Jesus at all, but that isn't taken as particularly strong proof he didn't exist as a historical figure/leader of a religious sect.
I think much can be explained as, to the Romans of the time--specifically, 20-50 AD or thereabouts--Christianity would have seemed to be one of many eastern cult religions. There would not have been anything particularly special about it to them.

i think you're neglecting the fact that the intellectually honest already perceive this and Spaceporn is a sperg-out atheist who can't accept that accounts of Jesus are considered universally significant even if not universally divine

1 - So why do people assume (incorrectly) that the Gospels were written by the Disciples? Either people were illiterate hillbiliies that couldn't write a grocery list, or some of his followers were intelligent enough to write his life story in high-level Koine Greek. (They weren't)
2 - So how were so many of Paul's letters preserved contemporaneously, but nobody thought to save the other Disciples writings? According to Paul, he actually went to Jerusalem and met Peter and James and spent weeks chilling with them.
i hate jesus and christcuck and islam are faggot bullshit violent religions but how the furk wld he write shit and make it survive for thousands of years unless it was like on a stone tablet?
if it was on any parchment in that type of sand nigga climate it wont survive, its same reason lots of shit didnt survive in bharat
the Vedas are the dumbest texts ever written down. Just thousands and thousands of lines of turdshits saying "oh Agni! please let the divine bovine poop on my turdshit head! Please bathe me in your poop, Indra!"

this is why we had prophets who stood on hillsides and preached the Good Word. It was all word of mouth handed down thru the generations. There wasnt a lot of shit written down about anything back then, just lore and round-fire story telling and whatnot. Sometimes they had rituals based on the messages, sometimes they sang songs about it, but it was always passed down by the village wise people.

His resemblance to all the previous dying and rising vegetation gods that came before him would leave one to believe that he never existed and was merely a pastiche cobbled together from earlier myths.. hope this helps
