they do. that's why they're visibly terrified and crashing out right now. if the risk of becoming a working class prole wasn't a terrifying prospect they wouldn't be irate. it's no different than libs lisping progressive justice and creating literal walls around themselves to personally shield themselves from the consequence of that.
they know how bad it is. that's why they're jealously hoarding what they have. this cycle has happened throughout time. wealth naturally accumulates over time, growing wealth disparity over time, until the working class is finally fed up enough to do something about it. and every time there has been upper class class traitors, like ceasar you just mentioned. the senate hated him because he wanted to give the people land who he saw were suffering as slaves displaced them. we're doing the exact same thing, offshoring to slave labor abroad and utilizing illegal slave labor domestically.
there's only two possible outcomes: either something changes, or we continue down the path to a cyberpunk technodystopia with a impoverished vestigial working class that outlived it's purpose.

Building US factories just became more expensive thanks to the tariffs. Inputs like steel are necessary to build a factory, and the tariffs are making those inputs more expensive.

Cleveland-Cliffs trims workforce as tariffs hit demand
The company is one of several North American steel manufacturers struggling to deal with the impacts of the Trump administration’s trade policy.
Cleveland-Cliffs is laying off workers in Michigan and Minnesota as the steelmaker attempts to mitigate the knock-on effects of the Trump administration’s tariffs on steel and auto imports.
The company plans to idle some operations at its Dearborn, Michigan, plant due to falling automotive demand, leading to 600 job cuts, according to an emailed company statement. Cleveland-Cliffs will also idle operations at two iron ore mines in Minnesota, resulting in 630 layoffs.
“These actions will allow the company to operate more efficiently and in a more cost competitive way for the current market environment,” the company said in its statement. “We believe that, once President Trump’s policies take full effect and automotive production is re-shored, we should be able to resume steel production at Dearborn Works.”

Stellantis NV said on Thursday it was temporarily laying off 900 workers at five U.S. facilities and pausing production at one assembly plant each in Mexico and Canada, after U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs were announced.

In 2018, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on steel and a 10% tariff on aluminum imports in an effort to give U.S. steel producers a leg up and stop job losses in that industry. He later granted exemptions to allied countries, including Canada and Mexico.
Those tariffs had a mixed effect.
U.S. steel manufacturers added about 1,000 new jobs as foreign-made steel suddenly got more expensive, making U.S.-made steel more competitive, according to a 2020 analysis by economists at Harvard and the University of California, Davis.
1
The researchers broke down figures from a 2019 study by researchers at Columbia University, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and Princeton University.
2
Unfortunately for the U.S. economy, there are many more industries that use steel than make it. Companies making auto parts, motorcycles, household appliances, various kinds of machinery, batteries, and military vehicles suddenly had their costs increase.
As a result, by 2019, those companies had hired 75,000 fewer people than they would have without the tariffs, the researchers calculated.

US has a trade surplus when it comes to advanced manufacturing items like airplanes, CPUs, GPUs, advanced batteries, assembly-line components and robots, precision tools, etc. Those industries are going to be even more fucked due to retaliatory tariffs.

nice non-sequitur. but you didn't address my point that the article you cited found tariffs helped manufactures of the tariffed product and how tariffs on previously non-tariffed goods will be protected this time in a way they weren't before.
pointing out that the few remaining things we manufacture here have foreign competition just demonstrates why protecting them is necessary. if we don't they will eventually be produced overseas by foreign slave labor, just like how everything else slipped away.
but hey, at least you're implicitly conceding that domestic manufacturing is a good thing and that it is in fact possible to manufacture stuff here!

No, I don't think illiterate Vietnamese slaves will be producing GPUs anytime soon. these third world countries have been trying to do advanced manufacturing for decades. the only modest success has been Brazil's Embraer.
And no, it's not a non-sequitur. these industries will on net suffer from a loss of free trade. higher material inputs and smaller markets to sell in.
Having high-value-added advanced manufacturing here is good because it is very productive and therefore can support high-paying jobs. Same for tech and professional services. We have a trade surplus in these industries and protectionism will hurt these industries. While only benefitting the less productive manufacturing that's lowest on the value chain, which involves jobs that are low-paying for the amount of labor and hazard.
In fact, that's part of why we succeed at the highly productive industries and fail at the lower-productivity basic manufacturing industries...you can't convince Americans to work these shit jobs but you can convince them to work the more advanced higher productivity jobs because the productivity means wages are higher.

"anytime soon"
but they will eventually though, right?
advanced manufacturing has been slipping overseas for years and will continue to do so. that's the entire point you fucking moron. if you don't think china will be able to produce gpus and planes (hint: they already do) you're retarded. there is no reason to think that without economic protections those industries won't slip away *just like every other one has.*
it's like arguing with someone from 1992. "haha no way will these dumb gooks ever be able to compete with ford and chevy!"
edit: i'll address one of your manic edits the one time because it's so fucking dumb.
"you can't convince Americans to work these shit jobs but you can convince them to work the more advanced higher productivity jobs"
HAtp is right, you retards are so fucking out of touch, although i think it's more likely you're a bold faced liar. millions of americans are working sub-minimum wage appslave gig jobs and getting their dicks burned off by baristas. you don't think someone doordashing for a living would take a stable factory job? you're either a sealclubber grade retard or a lying kike.

Nah it actually doesn't work this way. The policies you're suggesting would hurt our higher-wage productive advanced industries on two fronts today and raise prices for consumers, all starting on day one. In recompense, *if we're willing to stick with it for 15 years* we'd get a pittance of extremely low paying low-productivity manufacturing jobs that can't be filled unless we import a bunch of browns (or unless we destroy enough professional service, tech, and advanced manufacturing jobs via a trade war, which is increasingly likely).

??? The chart shows median wages increasing. That is a good thing even if the mean has increased faster. We could have the average and median equal to each other if we were all unemployed or working on Soviet communes, but it would suck.
Here is another chart showing that income increased at every quintile since the early 90s (and note this actually *understates* the growth since households are smaller now):

If your message to the American people is you want everyone to be poorer but more equal, it's a garbage message.

damn bro i'm glad you pointed out that non-inflation adjusted wages have grown. that's certainly a fact that not literally everyone is aware of! and quite meaningful too! and because i'm a fucking retard like you, that must mean their purchasing power has increased, because like you i don't fucking understand how inflation works.
sorry i came at you and made ridiculous claims like the american worker is worse off today than in the 90s. i see now that they're 3x better off than before. i can't believe i challenged such an economically literate person like you on economic policy.
also, did you know that thomas jefferson's net worth was $200k? wow, it turns out that i make more annually than the entire net worth of one of the richest americans in the 1800s! thanks for the education friend, i'm off to buy monticello for $6300, the price jefferson estimated it's value in 1800! boy, it sure is fun being a fucking retard and living in a fantasy world created by my own retarded imagination!

And again, you're asking to destroy high-wage domestic industries where we have a surplus now because of would could happen some decades from now. Completely idiotic

Sealclubber agrees with your retarded tariff take, it's no surprise.
And no, Americans don't want to work a stable factory job at a wage that will keep the factory solvent in some low-yield industry. Yess the prices of the goods will rise with tariffs, making those industries more profitable, but people will also buy fewer of those goods, so it will wash out. This is the tariff deadweight loss.

where are you getting this information? labor shortage is amongst the lowest in manufacturing relative to other industries.
https://www.uschamber.com/workforce/understanding-americas-labor-shortage-the-most-impacted-industries
there was a labor shortage for *skilled* jobs during COVID because, surprise surprise, the decline in manufacturing has led to a decline in skilled workers, and when we needed to make our own shit the talent wasn't there. which is precisely why manufacturing is also a national security issue to ensure we can be self-sufficient in the event of an emergency. if the manufacturing industry grows, so will the number of people who choose to go into it. just like how in 2010 everyone was learning to code and now that market is oversaturated.

I'm firmly in the top 1% from BIGLOL and family. My income would go down if nonsense continued for several years, but they're not taking breakfast away for something like this even if my numbers are low.
But I still care. Your last line should be at 0.1% or 0.001%.
I care insomuch as it's a moronic policy. You can't unring the bell of 40 years of deindustrialization overnight. Those supply chains take decades to make, and billions in immovable capital investments and they won't change, especially when no successor to Trump will continue his policies (Trump won't continue longer than a month or two).
If left for more than a month, inflation will be massive, as every serious economist has said. You can't make a third of the stuff we buy 50% more expensive over night (and large components of the other two thirds, as well), without things being much more expensive. If the market crash doesn't cause a reverse course, the immediate and obvious inflation will.
There was a smart, nuanced way to do it. You could implement a small broad tariff and use it almost as a consumption levy or VAT (and re-broaden the tax base since 50% pay no income tax, a GOP goal for 20 years). You could target specific countries, policies or industries more aggressive to achieve concrete successes where America could compete or reindustrialize in the medium term.
But 10-60% tariffs on the whole world is an unserious plan from an unserious president. The lack of nuance and thinking them through is all the more evidence that they won't stick (and can't stick), which is more reason no serious company will treat them as if they will last (and treat them as a negotiating ploy). Trump seems surprised that this is so obvious to other parties ("CHINA PLAYED IT WRONG THEY SHOULD NEGOTIATE"), which is the most hilarious, boomer-male thing about it. He's peak born on third base with bases loaded and an 0-3 count boomer male confidence.
And the market doesn't believe this will stick either. 15% is the market not believing it. If it does stick, it will be 50%. 2 plants may stay open in Michigan and North Carolina; millions will lose jobs in the recession. Cost per job created may reach hundreds of millions.
Finally, the middle class cares about this a lot more than I do. When they lose jobs in major recession, they lose houses, kids need to move schools, life comes tumbling down.

Even the hardline house Rs are running for cover this weekend.

Nah bro the GOP needs to run on "the stock market is fake tokens anyway" ...this will appeal to normie voters in the midterms and not just weird unhinged resentful pudgy losers who think they'd be making $400k working in an iron smelting plant if only import taxes were higher

ordinary people don't even care if their Amazon shit goes up 50% overnight
ordinary people don't even care if they lose their job or we have ITE 2.0 because we're rebuilding manufacturing
Narrator: They did not, in fact, rebuild manufacturing, and in fact there are many many jobs paying 25/hr in manufacturing today, which sit unfilled because nobody even wants them with the current social safety net.

People have a short memory. If before elections, things are fine, people will forget. But he is doing structural damage. Once the job losses start, homes start getting devalued, that shit will take time to reverse.
His hope is Fed will act before things get bad or soon thereafter. But there is no guarantee of that. Fed's mandate is to keep unemployment low and inflation at 2%. Tariffs are inflationary, so it's going to balance out.

To everyone on here who has been bitching about tariffs:
I am sincerely happy that this has hurt you IRL and I hope it hurts you more. I lol @ the thought that when the recovery comes, you’ll either be dead or too stupid / TDS-addled to capitalize on it.
Captain-of-industry Trumpmos will be wheeling and dealing in factories, sawmills, foundries, and oil fields while you struggle to pay for gender reassignment surgery for your freak trans kids.
HTH!
