Proprioception is the basis for remote viewing, not flame.

Traditionally, proprioception is understood as the nervous system's awareness of body position, movement, orientation, and spatial relationship to the environment. However, modern neuroscience increasingly recognizes that these systems are deeply integrated into the brain's broader construction of spatial awareness and self-location.

This becomes especially interesting when looking at phenomena like out-of-body experiences, phantom limbs, the rubber hand illusion, and VR embodiment experiments: All of these demonstrate that the brain's sense of where the "self" is located can be manipulated surprisingly easily. In other words, spatial self-awareness is not fixed; it is a continuously-generated internal model.

Remote viewing research conducted at Stanford Research Institute under programs later associated with the CIA's Stargate program has largely supported the existence of remote viewing based on certain declassified documents & whistleblower claims. One of the more overlooked aspects of many remote viewing reports is that participants often did not describe experiences as conventional visual perception. Instead, they frequently reported spatial impressions, directional awareness, textures, emotional atmospheres, vague geometric relationships, environmental characteristics that were "felt", etc. Phenomenologically, these reports often resemble distorted spatial intuition more than literal sight.

A plausible hypothesis is that altered states -- meditation, trance, sensory deprivation, hypnagogic states, rhythmic entrainment, etc. -- may partially decouple the brain's body-schema systems from normal sensory anchoring. Under those conditions, the same neural machinery ordinarily responsible for constructing embodied spatial awareness could begin operating in a less constrained or non-local manner.

Importantly, this does not require assuming "psychic vision" in the science-fiction sense. If any anomalous information transfer is occurring at all, the experience may instead emerge as an embodied spatial inference process that the conscious mind subsequently translates into symbolic imagery and language.

This interpretation also aligns with why remote-viewing data tends to be fragmentary, symbolic, emotionally contaminated, difficult to verbalize, and stronger on spatial/layout characteristics than fine detail. A more conservative interpretation is that remote viewing represents an extreme form of subconscious predictive processing-- essentially probabilistic inference, latent pattern recognition, and associative cognition experienced subjectively as externally sourced information.

Either way, framing the phenomenon through proprioception and body-schema theory arguably provides a more coherent neurocognitive model than the simplistic idea of "seeing distant places with the mind's eye."
