I have an Audi A6, and it is by far the best car I have ever owned. I have had A4's as service loaners, and they feel very similar - the A6 is just a little bigger and faster (unless you get the S4 or one of the now discontinued 3.2 liter A4's). I had a Mercedes E class before, and the A6 is superior in every way. A hidden benefit is that most drivers don't see it as a car that inspires road rage, as my MB did and my wife's Lexus seems to do now; however, you may prefer to make a stronger striver statement and inspire some RR. If so, I recommend the BMW. It's a great driving car, too. I find MB to be not so much a driver's car as either the Audi or BMW. The Mustang is totally different -- much more crude, but still lots of fun. I nearly bought a GT convertible for my winter place, but ended up with a Miata, even though my Porsche 911 turbo buddy tells me I have to put on a skirt when I drive it.
