Happens all the time. There is a splashy new innovation. People buy one as an experiment or as a signal "omg check out my waterbed."
Eventually the market gets saturated enough where it is common place, and everyone realizes "hey, these fucking suck" and everyone quits buying them. |

that had the obvious problem with punctures and flooding, so they were gradually redesigned with multiple sealed compartments, the filling/draining process became much slower, and they kind of FELT more like regular mattresses due to the compartment walls.
