A lap child is critically injured, leading to the most autistic safety debate since the “Seatbelt on Public Transit” thread. And the only real takeaway from all of this is… I should have been on that plane.
Because let’s be honest, there’s no escape from the grind. You survive the crash? Great, enjoy your two-hour wait at Canadian Customs before an RBC intern in a polyester suit hands you a voucher for an airport Tim Hortons. You die? Even better, your estate will receive an aggressively lowball settlement from Delta’s legal team before your next of kin cashes out and spends it on a leased BMW.
And yet, here we are—debating whether the pilot was a diversity hire or if this was part of a Boomer insurance fraud scheme. The Mahchine™ keeps running. Some lib is typing up a LinkedIn post about “bravery in adversity” while a Delta PR flack drafts the world’s most tepid statement about their commitment to safety.
Meanwhile, I’m still recalibrating Club Card thresholds at Safeway, watching Tabitha deep-throat a Meatball Marinara while informing me that “Seating arrangements are a microaggression.” She wins. I lose.
The Delta passengers got a peak experience. I got another shift in purgatory.

I’d have to check max crosswind component for that aircraft with a contaminated runway, but they should have been able to land. Beyond that, the pilot was aware of the wind speed and direction and if they felt it was unsafe to continue the approach they should have demanded another runway or diverted. You want to ideally touch down on the main gear on the upwind side first and it looks like that’s what he’s trying to do but he either overcontrols or gets a strong gust and sticks a wingtip.
