The 90s/2000s were definitely more similar to the 20s or the 70s in terms of economic bubble blowing and general consumer stupidity - and does anyone think those were the 'peak' of anything? The 90s were also defined by the most vapid and inconsequential of presidents - Bill Clinton - who was the perfect douche for boomers to adore.
For me, the peak was either the 1950s or the late 60s - ending with the moon landing. That was truly the climax of the Cold War and our high point as a nation. Shit has been rolling downhill hard ever since. |

IOW, the Soviets had their little sphere of influence, and the Western powers just regarded them as backwards Easterners. the threat of the Communists attempting to overrun Europe or start a nuclear war was non-existent -- about as likely as it is today. |
