I've looked at our local center and it looks tough and intense. Goal is to loose a couple of extra lbs and live a bit healthier. Other option is to do small group sessions w a personal trainer. But I can say from my own experience and the results I share with others is that without dialing in the diet, you become less efficient at the gains you want. I think it's helped to shed some weight.
But it's too expensive and I'm not real big on working out in groups. Also, I'm not sure how overblown the injury factor is, but I imagine it's easier to injure yourself.

but there's nothing really magic about crossfit. eat reasonably well and do compound lifts on your own and you'll look good. |

though even if you eat like shit, lifting heavy will help mitigate the effects and make you look more sturdy/stocky rather than looking like a fat blob. |

i eat healthy 6 days a week (fruits/veggies/chicken/fish and no processed foods) and splurge on a weekend day. I work out (lifting hard) 4-5 times a week.
I feel great

But crossfit's group environment may help you with motivation. Here's the most important part: make sure the coaches know what they are doing and provide regular instruction as to form. My gym is great, but apparently there are some crossfit gyms with incompetent coaches. You start doing overhead presses and snatches with improper form and you will be on the sidelines with a shoulder injury for months. Crossfit is great for building endurance but it's not necessarily going to make you a whole lot stronger.
