Why is helping criminals seen as so prestigious among libs?

The answer to every one of these types of questions is essentially virtue / status signalling.
But you have to be specific too though b/c libs will quickly eat their own as soon as you go against the grain in the slightest.
Helping poor blacks that were unfairly sentenced for drug crimes or helping the mentally unstable = prestigious to libs.
Helping sex offenders, rapists, murderers, white collar criminals = unprestigious obviously.
This boils down to power which is the only terms these marxists are able to think in these days (and more generally they've applied it to be synonymous to identity groups) - the first group is powerless against the patriarchal racist system that's oppressing these criminals. The second group holds power over a victim which will often fit into their hierarchy of victimization so this group is inherently different - despite the fact that the difference may be a 20 year old frat boy "rapist" vs. a drug dealer who killed tons of people selling bad dope.
